History: This ornate spice box is a traditional Indian piece crafted from solid brass, cast with six compartments arranged in a floral or star pattern. Each lidded compartment features peacock finials—an emblem deeply rooted in Indian culture and artistry. The central handle, also shaped as a peacock with a fanned tail, is removable and screw-mounted.

The piece exhibits signs of age and casting imperfections typical of hand-finished mid-century Indian metalwork. Hinged lids and pierced interior cavities suggest use for storing a variety of dry spices or possibly betel nut condiments (pan masala), a common tradition in Indian households.

The whimsical yet functional form and animal motifs align with regional metal arts from states like Rajasthan or Tamil Nadu, where brass casting and peacock symbolism are prevalent.
