History: This is a mid-century mechanical music box and cigarette dispenser by Reuge, the renowned Swiss music box manufacturer. Crafted primarily from wood and covered in embossed leatherette with star motifs, the piece features two glass windows that allow a view of the internal cigarette compartments. The top opens to reveal a compartment and a red sandpaper striker pad, indicative of use with matches. One side holds a small ashtray or possibly a match holder. Beneath the base, the brass winding key is clearly marked “REUGE,” and the internal movement is visible, showing the comb and pinned cylinder typical of their quality mechanisms.
