Green Violet Fade
$60.00Price
Name: Green Violet Fade Type: None Year: Circa 1880–1900. Set: No Mark: Unknown - possibly attributed to makers like S. Fielding & Co. (Crown Devon), John Edwards, or a similar workshop producing unmarked or pattern-coded items for wholesalers. History: This piece is a representative example of the highly ornate and decorative ceramics popular during the late Victorian period, produced in large quantities for both domestic display and overseas markets. The form—with its dramatic ruffled edges, embossing, and large scale—suggests it was always intended as a showpiece, likely used on a sideboard or hung on a parlour wall. The craquelure and vibrant colour palette point to it being mid- to late 19th century, and the orange painted pattern number (possibly "407") aligns with Staffordshire manufacturing codes of the time. While there is no maker's mark, the impressed "M" and hand-painted symbols are consistent with cataloguing systems used by several smaller English factories. The plaque shows its age with wear to the gilt and a chip to the footrim but remains a visually impressive decorative object and a fine example of period aesthetic design. Flaws: Visible crazing throughout, small chip on rim
