Mark: Yamasen "Gold Collection" - Yamasen. Gold Collection. Fine porcelain. Japan. 24ct Gold Plated

History: Yamasen was a mid-century export brand specializing in decorative tableware, often with gold plated details. It is likely from the 1950-1970’s, during Japan’s postwar export boom, particularly to the UK, US and Australia. The design has stylized hibiscus flowers or morning glories in pastel tones with an Art Deco inspired angular floral motif. The rim features a bamboo style yellow border and geometric foliage with detailing trimmed in 24ct gold plating as indicated on the backstamp. The style has heavy Art Deco influence, especially in the angular handle and bold floral forms, though this is more likely a modern mid-century revival or postwar export piece rather than an original 1920-1930’s.
