Name: Capodimonte Type: None Year: c.1950s–1970s Set: No Mark: Capodimonte (Italy) - Handwritten gilt "Capodimonte Italy" History: This small pedestal tazza (compote dish) is a classic example of mid-20th century Capodimonte porcelain, produced in Italy and heavily inspired by the lavish Rococo style of 18th-century Naples. The deeply moulded decoration depicts a garland of nude putti (cherubs) and roses in bold relief around a central tree trunk or vine motif. The dish is hand-painted in vibrant polychrome glazes and finished with a gilded rim. The mark on the base is handwritten in gold: "Capodimonte Italy", a known export style mark from the post-WWII production years—most likely between the 1950s and 1970s. The overall design evokes the ornate, maximalist tendencies of earlier Capodimonte wares but with the looser brushwork and slightly rustic modelling that became more common in tourist and export pieces of the mid-century. The applied gold trim and the uneven relief work, especially in the putti, reflect handcrafting but also suggest mass production rather than a master studio piece. Condition appears fair, with some wear to the gilding and uneven glaze pooling, which is typical of Capodimonte's hand-built items of this period. Flaws: None
