History: This is an official 1937 commemorative mug made to celebrate the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother). The design features:
 
 
A central portrait of George VI and Queen Elizabeth encircled by the Order of the Garter motto "Honi soit qui mal y pense" ("Shame on him who thinks evil of it"). The royal crown and the British motto "Dieu et mon droit" ("God and my right") underneath. The reverse shows a crowned royal cipher "GR" (George Rex) encased in a gold laurel wreath.
 
 
The mug was manufactured by Johnson Bros, a reputable Staffordshire pottery company known for producing quality ironstone and earthenware. The presence of the British Pottery Manufacturers Federation badge on the base confirms it was an officially approved coronation souvenir.
