Festival Bloom

$30.00Price
Name: Festival Bloom

Type: Jug

Year: circa 1945–1955, post-WWII

Set: No

Mark: Unknown - The faded black backstamp shows the Royal Coat of Arms flanked by lions and the phrase “By Appointment,” indicating a Royal Warrant. While much of the mark is smudged, the typography and layout suggest this is an early-mid 20th century piece from Royal Doulton or Royal Albert, both of whom used similar marks. The registration mark “REGD” and the hand-painted pattern number (X2843 K) further support this attribution.

History: This is a mid-20th century English porcelain creamer jug, standing approximately 9.5–10 cm tall. It features a baluster body with a pronounced footed base, a high-set loop handle with spur detailing, and a fluted rim with a pinched lip spout. The floral transferware band around the upper body consists of stylised blooms in vivid shades of blue, yellow, pink, and crimson against a white ground.

The design appears to be a variant of the “Festival Bloom” or “Bellflower Tree” style—unregistered but clearly in line with post-war optimism patterns from the 1940s–1950s, characterised by bright colours and stylised garden florals.

This jug dates to circa 1945–1955, post-WWII, and is typical of the decorative tableware produced for domestic use in the UK during the early reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

$25–$40 is the estimated value in its current condition. Minor rim wear and scuffing to the handle and gold detailing lowers the collectible value slightly, but it remains desirable for its shape, colours, and postwar provenance.

This porcelain creamer jug is an excellent example of transitional postwar British design, combining Edwardian formality with a new sense of cheerfulness through floral motifs. The hand-painted pattern number and impressed crown warrant suggest it was part of a larger service, likely intended for home tea use. Despite noticeable wear to the gilt and minor surface scratches, the colours remain vibrant, and the structure is intact. Pieces like this were often gifted or acquired as part of bridal sets, and today they are enjoyed for their nostalgic charm and decorative appeal.

Flaws: Slight fading of guildning
