History: This is a decorative scalloped-edge porcelain plate produced by J.H.C. & Co. under their “Wellington China” trade name, in Longton, Staffordshire, England. The plate features an elaborate rococo revival transfer pattern, enhanced with hand-applied gilding and floral detailing in orange-red and olive green.

The pattern is named “Dove,” as marked on the base, and it presents a highly ornate design of classical scrolls, cartouches, and floral urns in yellow-green tones, accented by orange-red roses. Stylised lattice and ribbon motifs alternate with garlands and trailing scrollwork. The rim is finished with a fine gilded border, and the pattern is transfer-printed with hand-painted detailing.

This plate represents a classic example of interwar Staffordshire porcelain, blending the ornamental tastes of the Edwardian and Art Deco eras. The “Dove” pattern by Wellington China features highly stylised neoclassical urns and scrolls in pale green, punctuated by vibrant orange-red roses—echoing Victorian exuberance while also showing the lighter, more stylised aesthetic that emerged post-WWI. The scalloped and moulded edge adds dimensional interest, and while some wear is visible to the gilding and surface glaze (particularly some browning and faint crazing near the rim), the plate remains visually impactful. The clear Wellington China backstamp and pattern name make it highly identifiable for collectors. Though not a high-value item, its decorative appeal and period charm make it a desirable piece for collectors of English floral porcelain or for mixing in with other rococo-inspired tableware.
