Name: Alfred Meakin

Type: Ceramic Pitcher

Year: c. 1930s–1950s

Set: No

Mark: Alfred Meakin - Alfred Meakin Ltd, Staffordshire, England

History: This jug features classic Alfred Meakin styling: softly bulbous body, a creamy ivory glaze with all-over fine crazing, and a delicate gilt accent around the rim. The mark on the base, a crown over the words "Alfred Meakin England", is a mid-century version used widely between the 1930s and 1950s. This mark was introduced after the company became part of the Meakin family group but before the 1976 Wedgwood acquisition.

The jug exhibits natural age-related crazing and light staining near the handle, common in earlier creamware. Its undecorated body and neutral tone suggest it was either part of a utilitarian tableware set or a plainer line such as “Sol” that was popular for hotel and domestic use in mid-20th-century Britain.

Flaws: Age related crazing
